September 10th update...aaahhh hot showers!

Today the girls arrived back safely and dirty from survival.
The boys also left for their first day of survival. While the boys were gone the girls went on a palm walk in a national park.
Then afterwards went to a swinging bridge it was fun for all with lots of laughs.
Tonight the girls had dinner (stuffed potatoes ) they were yummy!
When Miss Huth walked out with the mail box every girl was very excited most of us got letters while others got packages.
There were a few girls that didn’t receive any mail and were a little upset but they are ok now. Survival was very cold and dirty, but we ended up having lots of fun apart from the man eating possums!
They really were tame but had sharp UGLY claws.
Everyone was counting down the hours until we got to go back to Binga to use the indoor plumbing!

September 9th update...giddyup!

Today the girls were on the second day of their three day 'Survival' and the boys did activities at camp.
The boys did their third horse riding session, chopped wood and prepared potatoes for dinner (baked potatoes, bacon, onion and cheese).
Tomorrow the boys will be going on their three day survival and the girls will be returning from theirs.

September 8th update...new challenges

For breakfast we had corn fritters which were supposed to be like a hash browns, but they were burnt....so they didn’t taste that good!
Today the girls went out on survival for 3 days while the boys went and did abseiling.
For some of the boys it was a new experience and a challenge, especiallybecause they needed to abseil down an 8 metre rock face.
It was also a challenge having to get back to the top by rock climbing.
It was quite hard and tiring.

September 7th Family Day...families and yummy food!

Today was Family Day at Mt Binga and the weather was perfect. Parents and family had made the long trip up to Mt Binga to visit us, bring food and check out life at Binga.
The day started with a clean up to make the mountain presentable.
After that all of the families came down in cars to say hello.
We had prepared a devotion for the parents and we shared our thoughts about how much we appreciate our families.
After that we had picnics together and we had the food of our desires. Yummy!!.
After sharing our picnics and showing our family around Mt Binga we had to wave them off as they went home. Some people had some really emotional feelings and some were really sad. Our families really are special and important!
After this we cleaned up the place, lit the fire and made the hot water for our showers.
What a great day!

September 4th update...hiking and a prison break!

Today at Binga it was rainy day and the boys had to hike back in the rain (Aaron wasn't happy!!). Meanwhile the girls went to jail!! As a team building and problem solving exercise, the girls travelled to a different camp site nearby to Binga. We travelled there in the troopie. Celeste and Aimee helped with the directions. The 'jail' was not that big, but we had to break out using a small mirror and two sticks. It was really challenging, but we got out in 29 minutes. We did not beat the record which is 13 minutes.
Brittany found a deer head on the girls hike and she shoved it on top of the fire for the boys to find! Coming back to to Binga campsite was great after the hikes and it was so good to have a nice hot shower!

Saturday August 30th Chill Time update

This morning we got to sleep in until 7!!!
Then we did our morning jobs....cooking. We made bacon and eggs and they were delicious.
It is the weekend, so we didn't have any activities like on the other days....but we did need to wash our clothes!
Some of the stuff that we did today when we had free time included; soccer, playing card games, reading books, playing the guitar or just chillin'.
After we relaxed for a while, we did our afternoon jobs, which are different to our morning jobs.
We did a job called Duty. In duty, we light the fire to heat the water for everyone, so that we can all have a hot shower. We also raised the flags (in the morning), organised Worship for the day and did readings about the weather, electricity and water use in the camp to report to the group.

Thursday August 28th update

On Thursday, we did a Low Ropes course and did problem solving with initiative games.
'Otis' the bull constantly wandered slowly onto the low ropes course to check out the action! One of the initiative games involved getting a group of people over a wall that was about two metres high. This was challenging, but it was an enjoyable task and a good experience.
We are keen to see what is yet to come.

Wednesday August 27th update

On Wednesday, we hiked back from our overnight campout. It was in an unknown place! We had to learn to use the map and compass and with the help of our instructor, we found our way back to Mt Binga. Later that day we did an intro to horses. We found out how to act around them....especially not to look them in the eyes! In the afternoon, we did a two hour orienteering game aroung the Mt Binga camping area.

Friday August 29th Update

Today at Mt Binga, we ate pancakes for breakfast. They were nice! Later on in the day we were split into three groups. One group rode horses and the other two did some project work around the camp site. Project work consisted of chopping wood to use in our cooking fires, baking bread in 'Big Bertha' and helping to keep the camp tidy by taking rubbish to the dump. The groups rotated around so that everyone had a go at working with and riding on the horses. Most people gained new skills, especially around the horses. We all had the opportunity to learn how to handle, saddle, lead and also ride the horses.

Today was great!

We look forward to the rest of our camp at Mt Binga.

P.S The picture shows the mail box here at Mt Binga....we are looking forward to reading your letters.
